CrimeStoppers Program

What is the Crime Stoppers Program?

The Oakland Police Crime Stoppers Program concentrates on unsolved felonious crimes, i.e. homicide, armed robbery, weapons used in the commission of a crime or apprehension of wanted suspects. The Crime Stoppers tip line number is 510-777-8572 and is monitored daily. The information is then forwarded to the appropriate investigators. You can also leave a voice mail message at any time.

If you see a crime in progress or need to report an emergency, immediately call 911.

All calls to the police to provide information about a felonious crime are confidential and the caller remains anonymous at all times. The caller must provide details regarding the crime when reporting:

* Type of crime
* When crime occurred or when suspect will be at a specific location
* Where crime occurred, items related to the crime land/or suspect(s) location
* Who is involved: name, nickname (aka), addresses, identifying markings
(tattoos) and associates.

If the information results in an arrest and indictment of an offender, and/or recovery of weapons, the arresting officer submits a request for an award to his Commanding Officer that is presented to the Board for approval and you will be eligible for a cash award up to $1,000.00.

You will not be asked to reveal your identity to the police in order to provide information about a violent crime.

The Oakland Police Foundation is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization consisting of residents, business owners and civic leaders committed to building a safe community. With the Foundation’s help through donations and contributions from the community, the Oakland Police Department is able to fund programs such as Crime Stoppers. Your tax deductible donations, in any amount, will provide the necessary support to provide the cash rewards to callers whose information leads to the arrest and indictment of wanted persons or the recovery of weapons and for much needed marketing material to promote this program.

In addition to monetary donations, corporate in-kind contributions, advertising and free billboard space throughout the city of Oakland and individual contributions on behalf of the Crime Stoppers will help support this program.
